After producing a minivan since 1990, Pontiac has decided to pull the plug on their minivan efforts. Lackluster sales, an outdated product and Pontiac’s new, sportier image combined to spell the end for the SV6.

Pontiac may have wisely surmised that shoppers looking at the sporty new Solstice may doubt Pontiac’s performance credibility when the new roadster is parked next to an outdated minivan on the showroom floor.

Pontiac may still sell the SV6 in Canada into the 2007 model year, but that was unconfirmed at press time.

Beyond 2007

While a minivan will likely never again wear the Pontiac badge, look for GM to launch an all-new Chevrolet Uplander (and a still unnamed GMC minivan) sometime in 2009/2010.
