2007 Mercury Monterey

The recently discontinued Mercury Monterey signals the beginning of Ford's new strategy of developing large crossover vehicles rather than minivans.

The 2007 model year will be the last for the Monterey. Intense competition, flat minivan market growth and a lack of a compelling product led to poor Monterey sales in recent years.

Only one trim level is offered in the 2007 Monterey: a luxury model with a base price of $29,325. That model ships with an impressive list of standard features, including front/side/side-curtain airbags, a third-row tailgate bench seat and a stout 4.2 liter V-6 that provides 263 ft-lbs. of torque.

Six new exterior colors are offered for 2007: alloy clearcoat metallic, windveil blue clearcoat metallic, pewter clearcoat metallic, silver frost clearcoat metallic, dune pearl clearcoat metallic, and light tundra.

Mercury dealers interested in moving existing inventory may be discounting the Monterey, so savvy shoppers may be able to acquire a Monterey for significantly lower than list price.

Beyond 2007

With the axe falling on the Mercury Monterey and the Ford Freestar bowing out in 2007, Ford plans to replace both minivans with new crossover vehicles based on the Ford Fairlane concept, likely to launch sometime in 2008 as 2009 models.
