Despite numerous reports to the contrary, the Chevrolet Uplander continues into 2008 with a number of updates. Like the 2008 Toyota Sienna, the 2008 Uplander now comes standard with a number of important safety features, including StabiliTrak electronic stability control (ESC) and a tire pressure monitoring system. Given the strong track record of the Kia and Hyundai in the safety department, Chevrolet's move to add those features was likely driven by the need to more effectively compete in the safety category with the aforementioned Korean automakers.
XM satellite radio and a iPod/aux audio input are also now standard on all models (excluding those with DVD navigation). Finally, the Uplander gets one new exterior color for 2008: Ink Slate Metallic
Like all new GM vehicles, the Uplander gets a 5-year, 100,000 mile powertrain warranty with roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.
The existing standard engine--a 3.9 liter V-6 (photo) with variable valve timing (VVT) that generates roughly 240hp and 240 ft/lbs of torque--continues into 2008. A FlexFuel variant of the engine designed to run on E85 ethanol is also available.
BEYOND 2008:
Word on the street was that the Uplander was slated to be cancelled in 2007, but the vehicle continues into 2008. Other reports have indicated that the Uplander may get the ax in 2009, but we'll wait for ironclad confirmation from GM before making any further predictions.
