Chrysler Announces Lifetime Powertrain Warranty
Not long ago I posted about Chrysler's pricing strategy for their new 2008 Dodge and Chrysler minivans. Now it appears that Chrysler plans to get even more aggressive on the marketing front, recently announcing that many of its new vehicles will be covered by a new lifetime powertrain warranty. This is the first time that any automaker has offered such a long-term warranty, and should help Chrysler ease customer concerns over reliability.
According to Chrysler, the warranty will cover all new 2006, 2007 and 2008 Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep vehicles sold on or after July 26th, 2007. The warranty will cover the powertrain, which includes the engine, transmission and driveline. The existing 3-year/36,000 mile warranty remains to cover vehicle components not included in the powertrain warranty.
There are some caveats: High-performance SRT, commercial and diesel models aren't covered, and Canadian vehicles will retain the exisiting 3-year/10,000km powertrain warranty. The new warranty only applies to the original purchaser of the new vehicle, and the vehicle must be inspected (free of charge) at an approved Chrysler (or Dodge/Jeep) dealer every 5 years in order for the warranty to remain in effect.
It's quite an impressive announcement, and definitely shows that the new Chrysler is coming out swinging. Will the new powertrain warranty make you consider the purchase of a Chrysler minivan? Click on the comments link below this post and let us know what you think.

The components are not worth a lifetime warranty. I really do not see a Dodge or Chrysler gasoline engine lasting a lifetime. Then when the company goes broke because they can’t replace all these engines….(who is to say they wont slap a rebuilt one in it anyway)
Doesn’t impress me at all as it is limited to the original owner and therefore useless as a selling tool when trading/selling after, say, 3-4 yrs. Additionally why are Canadians being discriminated against? What are we 2nd class buyers??
I keep a vehicle until the wheels fall off… This deal has my attention, but I want to see what kind of loopholes they come up with.
Sounds like Chrysler is willing to stand behind their product big time with a warranty like this. I recently bought a Chrysler vehicle based in part on this lifetime warranty. I usually keep a car 10 years before trading and this will help make those 10 years go by with less worry over an expensive repair.
